Guy experiences again how his brother, Mace, was the favorite son, while Guy was always his father's disappointment. Even when Mace decides to abandon college and join the police academy, his father congratulates him. Guy decides to make his father proud through other fields, like science. One night, after working on his project, he finds Mace doing drugs, and Guy promises not to tell their dad. Guy finally gets an A on his project, but his father keeps beating him, letting all his work and drinking problems take over.
